Services
Children see Occupational Therapists for many different reasons. At Kidlife Therapy Services, we aim to help your child reach their potential in the areas of their life that are important to you and your child. These may include goals your child has for home, at school, or in the community.
We can provide sessions in your home, your child's education setting, at our Albury clinic, or via telehealth or phone - whatever works best for you and your child!
Intake Session
Completed with parents/carers only, this session helps us gain a picture of your child's strengths and struggles, as well as your goals and hopes for their future. To do this, we will ask questions about your child's developmental history, where they are at now, and what areas you would like support in.
Please note: An Intake session is required before assessments can be completed or therapy commences.
Assessments
We offer a range of assessments including Functional Capacity Assessments (FCA), sensory processing assessments, executive functioning screening, and observational assessments at educational settings. Most assessments include a formal report detailing results and recommendations. A feedback session can also be requested to go through the report with your therapist. Other people (e.g. educators) may be involved in the feedback session if requested.
Individualised Sessions
Individualised therapy sessions involve you and your child, your child and their educator, or just you (parent sessions), depending on your child's therapy goals. Each session works towards your child's goals using evidence informed approaches, whilst being attuned to your child's needs at the time of the session. Some examples of approaches that inform our practice are Theraplay inspired play therapy, sensory modulation, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, energy and emotional regulation programs and tools (e.g. The Ready Rocket Program), task analysis, environmental modifications and accommodations, and trial of therapeutic tools/toys. Our parent coaching sessions are informed by a number of programs and trainings (see Groups and Education below) and parenting field experts including Dan Siegal, Tina Bryson, Mona Delahooke, Dr Ross Greene and Kristy Forbes.
Education Setting Visits
When requested by you, we can go into your child's education setting to provide practical strategies and advice to the staff working with your child that will enhance your child's participation. This often involves observations of your child at preschool, day-care or school, followed by collaborative planning with staff and you around how to best meet your child's needs.
Reports
and other Non
Face-to-Face Services
Reports are provided when needed and necessary. You may require reports for your records, your child's funding body, school, or paediatrician. Examples include Assessment Reports, Progress Reports, Review of NDIS Plan Reports, and Closure Reports.
We also provide other non-face-to-face services to support your child. These include phone calls, emails, liaison with educators and other professionals in your child's team, development of resources (e.g. social/self stories and visual aids), and research and investigation of specific assistive tools/equipment.
Groups and Education
Parenting and children's group programs run throughout the year depending on the needs of our clients and their families. Our parenting programs draw from evidence based programs including Tuning Into Kids, Circle of Security, Bringing Up Great Kids and Theraplay principles. Our children's program is Sunshine Circles, a group-based Theraplay program that helps children develop their social and emotional skills. Training for Educators and other professionals is also available on a range of topics including Understanding Sensory Processing, Sensory Processing and the Workplace, Trauma Informed Sensory Processing, Trauma Informed Practices in Schools, Coaching Emotions, and Attachment Seeking Behaviours.
